Something like a book report, this is a brief analysis of Dostoevsky's CRIME AND PUNISHMENT. After some information about the author and the novel, Gary Cox discusses the six parts and epilogue and covers certain symbols, ideologies, character types, and character relations as well as other aspects of the novel. I found it to be insightful and thus helpful; there were many things Cox speaks about that I hadn't been aware of at all, and it gave me a deeper appreciation of a novel for which I already had great admiration.

If you like reading the last chapter of earlier works you will like this

Each story is good but having the last chapter of "Something in the Wine" was an unexpected bonus. I loved having it for Valentine's Day.

Entertaining read about old and new characters

This compilation of four short-stories takes the reader back to well-known characters. For one, there's Annie and Drew from "Something In The Wine" by Jae. As I mentioned in my book review to that novel, my only complaint with that was that I wanted to learn more about the main characters' troubles in the relationship after they finally got together - and I got my wish. I really liked the way the author developed Annie and made her insecurities believable. I had to laugh quite a few times but it made me care about the characters even more. This short story was my favorite one from those four.

Another story is a continuation of RJ Nolan's novel "L.A. Metro". I hadn't read the novel before reading this short story, so I didn't know the characters yet. I found it was written really well and I liked the obstacles both women created for themselves while having a very similar idea - even though I didn't much care for the actual idea all that much. Now, after having read "L.A. Metro" as well, I can appreciate the story even more.

The other two stories are about new characters - as far as I can tell. At least I didn't know them from any novels. Both are about women that have a chance encounter with a stranger. And both are more than a bit surprised that their bleak view on love seems to be not as depressing as they originally thought.

From all four stories I liked Jae's "Seduction for Beginners" the best. That might be because I had just finished reading the novel and already knew the characters. But all stories are really well written and the book is a nice and entertaining read. I'd recommend reading the novels beforehand though since it makes reading these short stories even better.

Wonderful Stories

I ADORE this book! Three of these stories are follow ups to wonderful books and all four are perfect as stand alones as well.

1) The Morning after by Jae – This is the beginning of Departure from the Script, the first of Jae's Hollywood series.It is an excellent series!
2) Two Hearts one Mind by RJ Nolan – This is a tale about Jess and Kim from Ms Nolan's La Metro. It is romantic and sweet.
3) On the road by Joan Arling – I loved this charming story about a lady truck driver and her sexy hitch hiker. It was funny and endearing.
4) Seduction for beginners by Jae – A beautiful follow up to Something in the wine. Drew and Annie take things to the next level. Sigh....
If you have not yet read these books you are in for a treat, enjoy!

It is irritating that you have to buy the next book to continue to read. These are NOT stand alone books nor or thy just a continuation of a story. In order to know an ending you have to keep reading. If I had really known that I would not have bought the books.

Frustrated

The first book was excellent and I gave it 5 stars. But the writing doesn't flow in this book like it did in the last one and I found myself skimming several pages because I became bored. I became frustrated because the author doesn't really let you in on how Cora is feeling in this book about her past much and you don't really learn anything new about it. I would like to know what happened to her but I'm not sure whether I have the patience for it. I would have liked for it to keep up the tension of the first book which is mostly about Cora. I wouldn't say it's a bad book, just not as great as expected. I think that the series should have been 3 books. Or if it's going to be 5 books, at least give you a special deal if you buy all 5 at once.

THIS IS NOT A SERIES............IT IS ONE BOOK DIVIDED INTO 5 SECTIONS

Although the author writes quite well, I cannot honestly give her 5 stars because of the
deceitful way she sells this book. It is ONE book divided into FIVE sections, and each
book starts off as a new chapter or section, taking up where the last book left off. It would
have been okay if she had sold each section more reasonably. To read the entire book you
have to end up paying $15.96 on Kindle. Thus, any admiration I gained for her writing abilities,
I ended up losing admiration in how she is marketing this book. I will not read anything else
she has written because of the way this story was sold.
